Transportation language in the IEP
A student's adaptations related to transportation to/from school should be outlined on the services page of the student's IEP. Examples of language to be used as a guide are as follows:
For a learner who needs local district-provided special education transportation to an ISD 917 special education program:
- Specialized transportation is needed to transport CHLD to [site] where [she/he] receives specialized programming for [his/her] disability, and will be provided two times a day for approximately [number] minutes each trip by the providing school district.
For a learner who has need for special education transportation to an ISD 917 special education program for needs related to his/her disability and/or other medical or IEP-documented needs, combine the following statement with the above statement. This also applies to a learner with such additional special needs attending a 917 program within the learner’s local district:
- Specialized special education transportation is needed to transport CHLD to accommodate [his/her] [need] related to his/her [disability/medical need], and will be provided two times a day for approximately [number] minutes each trip by the providing school district.
For learners who need and will have an aide provided during their special education transportation to an ISD 917 special education program:
- CHLD needs an aide on [his/her] special education transportation to [detailed reason - examples: maintain CHLD's safety and the safety of others on the bus because of [behavior/medical need], monitor and provide assistance for CHLD's motor needs, etc.]
