Math

Core curriculum is the evidence-based curriculum that all students receive on a daily basis. To be effective, teachers must differentiate their instruction to meet the needs of each individual student in the classroom.

enVision Mathematics combines problem-based learning and visual learning to deepen students’ conceptual understanding. enVision uses instructional strategies like 3-Act Math modeling tasks and authentic problem solving.

Grades 9-12

ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces) is an online mathematics learning platform. Intermediate District 917 has adopted ALEKS as the core instructional tool for mathematics in some high school classrooms. 

ALEKS is an adaptive learning platform that tailors lessons to each student’s individual needs, helping them progress at their own pace. It provides targeted practice and immediate feedback, which helps reinforce concepts and improve mastery.

While ALEKS serves as the core instructional tool, teachers are expected to follow district-developed protocols for supporting students with the soft skills of learning, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management. These protocols guide teachers in monitoring student progress on ALEKS, providing timely interventions when students get stuck, and offering personalized support. Whether through one-on-one assistance, group discussions, or alternative explanations, the goal is to keep students engaged, confident, and developing both their math skills and the broader skills needed for success. Following these established protocols ensures a consistent, effective approach across the district.
