Due Process

-- February 2026 --

Main page: Links to all resources are now in button format. Navigation to individual pages should be easier from each button's “home page”.

The IEP and Progress Report navigation page has been updated

The ISD 917 PWN Friendly IEP Agenda has been updated. The Due Process Advisory plans to review this agenda and others that are being used to revise templates for the commonly held meetings (Eval Results, 2-in-30, Templates for Slides, etc). This version has also been added as a Google Docs Template that all 917 employees should have access to.

Altered Day Guidance has been created with input from setting IV administrators and lead teachers. This formalizes the approach taken to ensure modified days are being used appropriately and that teams are reviewing and documenting student progress as well as completing the required due process

The Eval Planning page has been reviewed and updated. Some of the procedures around Evaluation PWNs have been updated and should be reviewed to ensure you are using the correct process, including the paper-lite procedures for signed Eval PWNs

There is a Notice of Agreement that a 3 Year Re-evaluation is Not Needed form in SpEd Forms that may be used in unique circumstances when a re-evaluation may not be necessary. Follow up with your school Psychologist if you have questions about this process or if you may have a student who meets the criteria.

The MH-SPED page has had some additional guidance added around goal writing.

The Behavior page has been updated to include a navigation page and links to the documents that were previously contained on one page.

2 in 30 Guidance has been created and added to the page. This includes the statutory “why” behind the meeting and the best practices for discussion. It will see additions over the next few months.

And finally, there is revised guidance for 1:1 ESP Support Determination. If you or your team are considering adding a 1:1 ESP support to a student’s IEP, review the procedure and complete the associated forms in conjunction with working with your site administrator.

--August 2025--

  1. SEL Support: Dropdowns for SEL Support in the service grid have changed. Moving forward, you will either select Psychoeducation or Psychotherapy for Mental Health Services when students receive minutes from a Mental Health Professional, Clinical Trainee, or Practitioner. Consult with your site Social Work, Counselor, or MHP during the IEP process about which to use.

  2.  History folders have been added for the 25-26 school year, specifically for Due Process, Incident Reports/Debriefs, and MA Billing. This will help keep documents in SpEd Forms more orderly and easier to find. Please add these folders to your students’ history. Reminder: Form Dates must be included when uploading to history*

  3. Release of Information (ROI): Starting this year, we will begin to use the SpEd Forms Release of Information. This will allow us to work towards being paper-lite, as well as provide the opportunity for guardians who use the electronic signature function in SpEd Forms to do so. Here is the guidance on how to do this.

  4. Dropdowns have been reviewed and cleaned up - Please let your site's Lead Teacher or Assistant Principal know if you have any issues or discrepancies.

  5. In your Educator Profile, you may now change Themes (‘Color mode’). For those of hoping for a dark mod,e SpEd Forms has provided this option, among others.

  6. Starting this month, there is a new category on the student information page of the IEP. Where we before had School of Enrollment (917 Program), Providing District (ISD 917), and Resident District (where the guardian resides), there is now also “Placing District”. Placing District refers to the district that is currently on the IEP team. Often, this is the same as the resident district, but in some cases, such as open enrollment or when a student lives in a different district than where their guardian resides, the two may no longer match. This needs to be updated when it changes. If you have questions about which district should be under which category, please consult with your lead teacher or assistant principal.
