For Students

The Secondary Education programs offered through ISD 917 provide students with alternatives that students say fit their educational needs better than a traditional education setting for a variety of reasons.

Here are just a few things our students and instructors had to say:

"Before my time with Chef Patty, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.  I liked food and I loved working with my hands.  Now, since I have been in Fundamental Chef Training class, I can see myself being a chef for the rest of my life.  She even helped me find a great college for next year, Saint Paul College, where I shadowed all of the chefs for an entire day...I wouldn’t miss Fundamental Chef training class for anything in the world.”

"I liked DCTC because of the flexibility to work at my pace and because Dale is an awesome instructor!"

"Our Career & Technical Education programs provide a unique opportunity for students who reside in Dakota County. Students are empowered by learning technical, general work, and leadership skills in a variety of 'hands on' learning environments.  Issues which often interfere with students’ learning in a traditional environment disappear.  Frequently, these classes are the first positive educational experience for non-traditional students.  Their self esteem and view of the future are improved.  Many students learn technical skills which will enable them to find employment or seek post-secondary training."
