Lube-Tech Day at DCTC
April 20, 2022
On April 20, 2022, ISD 917 students learned about the importance of strong connections between business, higher education, and K-12 education. Lube-Tech Day at DCTC offered ISD 917’s Dakota County Area Learning School (DCALS) and Career & Technical Education (CTE) students a fantastic opportunity to learn about the wide variety of technical career programs available at Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) and career paths to which they can lead.
Our students toured the DCTC learning environments and heard from instructors and current students in the fields of:
*Civil Engineering
*ASEP
*Automotive Technology
*Heavy Duty Truck Technology
*Heavy Construction Equipment
*Industrial Engineering
They learned how to fly a drone, practiced using different types of tools, learned how corporations support workforce development, and gained insight into career paths and available career opportunities. Key takeaways from the day included the importance of lifelong learning to keep up with industrial evolution, the joy people in hands-on careers take in their work, and the significance of foundational learning.
Some quotes from the day included:
“Industry wants people who want to learn.”
“This industry has lots of opportunities.”
“Nothing in this world really happens until these heavy-duty trucks are on the road.”
“You can’t be afraid to fail.”
“It’s nice seeing people enjoy their work.”
“Unless you really know your equipment, you can easily break stuff.”
“What are the most important skills you need? Patience. Willingness to learn and relearn. Listening.”
Huge thanks to Lube-Tech and DCTC for arranging this opportunity for our ISD 917 students!
